Cameron supports Turkey’s EU bid

I was relieved when I read today that David Cameron supports Turkey’s EU membership application. Coming from Germany and having resided in Germany’s industrial area for a while and worked in a tool maker’s department of a large factory there as well, I am accustomed to Turkish guest workers or Gastarbeiters as being a substantive part of Germany’s workforce. The Turkish are to Germany what the Bengali’s are to Britain.

EU members should accept Turkey with open arms, they have a secular society and as such neutralise the religious emphasis on public life. Germany has adopted a similar attitude in their constitution, especially in education.

I think David Cameron is rather clever to side with Turkey and pave their way into the EU partnership because Turkey is a powerful block and important to have for us rather than against us.

Cameron trying to dilute the EU by extending it beyond Europe? It would fit the euroskeptic agenda.

Cameron has got this one absolutely right. Bully Israel has to be stood up to. Turkey should be welcomed into the EU with immigration controls
