living wage cancelled by stealth

The longer this Tory government is in place, the higher the food prices rise.

It is not just the basic price, it has now also become apparent that previously sold basic products have changed. Low-level priced, good quality products are no longer available in many stores.

The quantities sold previously and branding has changed and prices have tripled. Even basic medications like Ibuprofen and Paracetamol are now hard to get on a low price.

Poundland used to sell 3 packs per pound, the last time I looked it was 1 pack per pound.

Supermarkets now give away their unsold foods to charities instead of throwing the food away but the price of that is passed on to regular consumers, who do not rely on food banks to get their food. Poor people (including the working poor) now just wait for the free food from food banks and that reduces the income food retailers actually get.

There are now more food banks in Britain than there are McDonalds restaurants. Our economy is on the brink of collapse.

I am not entitled to use food banks and have to pay a very high price for just everthing. Prices seem to rise each week.

It’s the person who earns more who have to subsides those on low wages. People do not only pay taxes to support society, they now also are asked to donate to food banks and other charitable enterprises to support others.

Reliance on charitable donations exacerbates inequality. Schools who rely on parental donations have less money if they are with poorer parents.

Clearly it must be much more efficient to bring into place a regulated support system that allocates resources on a fair basis to those on low incomes.

Now we got the living wage but reduced hours, so that jobs are shared out among more people who all earn a fraction of the wages one person could earn. So in fact we all earn less because we need to support others more. The living wage has cancelled out by stealth.

The dictator’s speech

I think that the Boris speech at the Tory Party Conference was just an empty shell of promises, which were not even the most effective remedies for the ailments that society suffers from.

There is the promise to spend Billions on new hospitals. A real populist measure, that does not expect people to live more healthily but merely offers to treat their illnesses.

The promise of a higher living wage. This measure will drive up food prices even more and make it impossible for smaller businesses to continue trading.

The promise of a new EU Brexit agreement. It has already been rejected by the EU.

I must admit, I would be aroused by Boris’s speech had I been in the audience. But then if you watch the speeches of other dictators, who electrify large audiences, you will see that it is simply an emotional effect and psychological trick that makes people happy to listen to some speakers.

The reality is a different matter.
