Oh Homeless Los Angeles

Just watching The Americas with Simon Reeves and learned there are 45.000 homeless people in Los Angeles. Apparently the Americans are a low tax, low welfare country with few housing and infra structure projects on the go. There are waiting lists to get into a shelter, which is 6 months.

Well, we thought we are bad on housing. There are only 4 street medics in the whole town.

The New Deal project of Roosevelt, I mentioned earlier was the only large building project era the USA had.

Apparently there are now plans for a Green New Deal.

New deal – old concept

Whilst I missed watching the Brexit debate yesterday, I now watch the Youtube replay. Strikingly Boris Johnson mentions we need a New Deal. That reminded of the works program the DWP had as slogan.

Looking this up online, it appears that New Deal was first used by the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1930s. That was between World War I and World War II.

There are no fresh ideas from this government, which is quite disappointing, perhaps that is a reason why Boris’ deal was voted. down.

That is now the third time that Britain recycles the New Deal idea.
